Easy access to products and services

Many web pages are difficult to understand or use.
For example: filling in a form.
Or finding specific information.
Or using an online service.

Many vending machines are complicated to use.
For example: cash machines.

Vending machines, websites, online services: these are all products and services.

Anyone should be able to use these products and services easily.
But people with special needs cannot always do so.
There are too many obstacles.
A complexe language can be an obstacle.

That’s why a new law will come into force on 28th June 2025.
By that date, digital products and services will have to be easy to use for everyone.
The law also applies to private companies, not just public services.

There are rules for making products and services simpler.
The technical term is: accessible, accessibility.

One part is about techniques. Example: blind people can have a website read out to them.
Deaf people can read the text of audio content.
The other part is about the content: images and text must be easy to understand.
A clear language makes it easier to understand the content.

For new projects, it’s a good idea to plan accessibility from the beginning.
This saves time and money.
